Okay....I read so far and could bite my tongue no longer and SMASHED that reply to topic button before I even made it to the second page!!! So I'm not sure if people have been enlightened yet but I'm gonna go ahead and set a few straight with some BARE FACTS...or FAX maybe...
It would seem here that some posters have a problem with dear old Uncle Fred and have chosen to be pretty disrespectful in addressing said problems. First off Fred is EVIL....HELLO!?!?! Do you know nothing of ZERO-1??? So Fred by no means needs myself or anyone to fight his battles! But you guys, we as a community and I include myself in saying so ARE LUCKY that Fred is a member hear and posts as frequently as he does. Do you have any idea what his presence has meant for the NWA as a whole? Sure he doesn't get Marquez or Brody or even Behrens level credit BUT if not for Fred Richards/Mr Fred Rubenstein there may not have been an NWA for Billy Corgon to buy! The man has been a part of the business in some form or fashion for nearly 50 years. That alone is reason to give him due respect.
Maybe you don't like the fact that he's clearly one of the MOST intelligent guys NOT ONLY on this board but in wrestling altogether. Maybe you don't like that through his vast experience his opinions sometimes differ from yours. I don't know but in horse shoes and hand grenades and Professional Wrestling if you've walked the walk then you're free to talk the talk. I can understand how you'd feel upstaged by all of that BUT why choose bitterness? I personally LOVE having Fred here and always look forward to his opinions whether I find them agreeable or not. And I respect that the guy has BEEN A MAJOR PLAYER IN THE NWA from being Pres. Ho-Bro's right hand man to running Jersey with Dennis Coralluzzo to refereeing countless championship matches and EVERY MAJOR WORLD'S CHAMPIONSHIP DEFENSE for nearly TWO 2 TWO DECADES to being a mainstay on the NWA Board of Directors TO BEING AN OWNER OF THE BRAND ITSELF!!! He was THE ONLY guy that Chris and Bruce NOT ONLY WANTED TO KEEP AROUND but they felt so strongly about him that they made him a partner!!! I've been involved with wrestling in the central Ohio area since '94ish...and I'll be honest and say that there are guys that I personally CANNOT stand that I can talk to or work with in a heart beat BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH I DON'T CARE FOR THEM I RESPECT THEM!!! When I was growing up Bobby Fulton of The Fantastics and his younger brother Jackie lived in the area and Bobby ran shows all over the state. He ALWAYS DREW and he ALWAYS MADE $$$ because of that he naturally had plenty of enemies. People are jealous by nature. He left in the early 90's and was gone until 2007 roughly when he moved "home" and started running again. I've had limited interactions with the guy but I remember the first dealings I had with him professionally and I was blown away by what a DECENT HUMAN BEING HIS WAS. But EVEN IF HE'D BEEN A COMPLETE ASSHOLE GUESS WHAT....He's Bobby fuckin Fulton and I'm gonna sure as hell show him respect.
It doesn't matter the level you perform at... When I was a teenager I rode in the cargo area of one of the boys SUV's 5 hours one way to Kentucky to work for $10 and got home at 5am the next morning. And I did it wide eyed with my ears open and my mouth shut and btw I was VERY HAPPY to do it! Aside from West Virginia once, Kentucky for maybe a year straight, Cincinnati a handful of times, Cleveland 10-15 times and Pennsylvania maybe half a dozen times I didn't leave central Ohio much....not much at all compared to guys today. I chose to have a family and still enjoy wrestling as a hobby on the weekends. So in spite of NOT making it very far or AT ALL truly after the time I have put in IF some young kid was disrespectful to me IT WOULD PISS ME OFF and I'd make sure people knew it. Now take Fred Richards....the man was basically a cultural icon in Japan as HEEL Ref Mr Fred. He not only was a ref for over 40 years BUT HE WAS OFTEN FLOWN INTO A CITY IN ORDER TO OFFICIATE NWA WORLD'S TITLE DEFENCES. Indy guys aren't flown in often and referees ARE NEVER FLOWN IN....EVER!!! But for the past DAMN NEAR 30 YEARS Fred was to the NWA as to what Earl Hebner was to the WWF or Charles Robinson was to WCW or what John Finnigan was to ECW. How often is ANYONE reading this able to chat with Earl Hebner about the WWF or with Nick Patrick about the good old days of WCW.... it simply BLOWS MY MIND that people who claim to passionately follow something are pissed that a KEY MEMBER of that something has the audacity to want to share their opinion on said something.
Now in closing I'll come right out and say it....I need an editor! Haha...I'm not intimidated by Fred's intelligence...I'm impressed by it. And I know that verbally I could hang or even go toe to toe with the man BUT I have some learning disabilities and I SUCK at spelling and correct grammar and punctuation....and I'm the very first to admit it. But you know the crazy thing about old Evil Fred is....I know that someone of his intelligence level would easily see, right away that I need some work with my grammar and spelling and all that....smart people notice those things BUT I have always been respectful of Fred and in spite of my own shortcomings...he's ALWAYS BEEN RESPECTFUL OF ME. I know he reads what I post because he'll respond thoroughly. That's the thing about old school guys in the business...IN LIFE..if you GIVE THEM RESPECT they will GIVE YOU RESPECT back. So honestly guys I just don't get it....I don't get it at all. I'm sitting over here waiting for the guy to write a damn book about his life in the wrestling business (especially because there's not much out there about the NWA from 94-02/03) and there are guys on here wishing he'd go away!?!?! Insanity.
Once again I apologize for the LONG rambling mess guys...if you made it this far I applaud you! Everyone is entitled to an opinion I guess and I respect the majority of those here I just...I don't get it at all...NOT AT ALL!?!? I just do not get it. Sorry Uncle Fred! I still think you're great brother!
