David Marquez is completely transparent in this interview going into depth about how he got started into the business working with Gordon Solie and Harley Race before returning to Southern California to work with Rick Bassman with UPW, Rob Black and Kevin Klienrock of XPW, and Gary Yap with EPIC. David talks about how he became involved with New Japan Pro Wrestling, the beginnings of NJPW USA, becoming a full fledged member of the National Wrestling Alliance and how he tried to lead a New Japan buyout of the 72 year old brand. David speaks about what ended the NWA/TNA relationship. This one is sure to ruffle some feathers.

Ruffle feathers??? Feels more like being tickled by feathers.
Much of what is said is rooted in half-truths. Some is outright false. Then more proves that information was deliberately withheld from elected Directors.
I will not discuss the infamous lawsuit in Texas. However, it is public record that the loss of the brand was not as a result of a verdict. Rather, the then-owners threw in the towel rather than face trial. Much had been unearthed that pointed to misuse of the organization's funds that were on deposit. That was discovered by a North Carolina Police Agency, not via the plaintiffs.
The ending of the TNA relationship is documented in a series of emails. Those emails state, clearly, why TNA wanted out. It names dates, times and individuals. TNA was fed up with being harassed by some NWA members. The TNA deal was the one chance the NWA had to turn a profit. Too bad three people went and 'effed it all up. Once the brand changed hands, this was somewhat moot.
It is outright laughable to listen to how a couple of "leaders" were worked by New Japan. What a salient testimonial to their lack of business acumen.
Vince McMahon, Jr. was never an NWA member. His father was. And that ended in May of 1983 after he and the organization (NWA) got into a wet-diaper, pissing contest over Lou Thesz and Buddy Rogers. The WWWF was born when Bruno bested Buddy at MSG in 48 seconds.
I respect David. Only a liar would deny he has been a force in pro wrestling. However, in addition to disputing some of his recollection, I believe he was one of the driving forces that made the hostile takeover a walk in the park.
I wish David nothing but the best. The interview was informative and amusing.

I'm with Khris & Laughing Man - more of these will be fun. After all, the NWA was always rooted in controversy.
So here's what I suggest Jay & dkm consider - - I'm ripe for an interview wherein I will address the very same points (excepting Dave's personal business) that Brother Marquez did.
After that - - we can have a three-way dance with dkm and/or Jay wearing the Solie Shirt as moderator.
Let me be clear on a couple of things:
1. There are some post PWO, LLC matters I cannot discuss in detail. 2. I will make reference to a couple of people who are deceased. I do not beat up on dead people. Thus, my relevant remarks will not cite their names verbatim. I have zero respect for those who rag on the dead; who cannot rise in their own defense. 3. I WILL be matter-of-fact on the TNA deal and its purposeful (I believe) destruction. 4. The matter of Sinclair Broadcasting might just infuriate some (it sure angered me). A door was opened (I'll name the person who opened it and it wasn't me) and a person then in authority simply chose not to enter - and that was just plain, damn wrong. 5. Let's talk about another "door" in mainstream Atlantic City, NJ. 6. Let's talk about squandering a golden opportunity in Japan that would NOT have involved surrendering control of the brand.
I leave it to Jay and dkm to take it from here, if they choose. Both know how to contact me.

Both know how to contact me.As you may recall, prior to a lot of the worlds problem we're facing right now I reached out to you, so we could do a series of discussions about the NWA. I still very much want to have these conversations with you. Fred, you're absolutely one of the only people who's living that can connect the dots from Monday Night Raw and Dan Severn, to NWA Showcase with Blue Demon, to just before Ten Pounds of Gold with Tim Storm. I'd love to have this conversation. I'll reach out to you soon to discuss how we can approach this.

I enjoyed the interview. Didn't know David Marquez had been involved in wrestling for so long. Very cool.
