NWA should be looking to do one of these yearly. Should be written into the NWA contracts that each American promotion needs to put in a certain amount of money (Few hundred dollars) with one promoter paying extra to ensure his area gets the big event. Of course the profits are split within the alliance with the promoter putting more money in getting more profit (obviously)
With 20 promotions in America if you charged say 300 a piece that's 6000 dollars for an event with next to no equipment hire because your local promoter most likely owns that. After the legal stuff you could toss 4000-5000 dollars into just advertising, merchandising (If that is financially successful generally) and talent
If the NWA came to a big NWA town (Generally the NWA does well in the south I hear?) with a marquee line up featuring some "name" guys from the 80's (Rock N'Roll Express, Jimmy Valiant, Jake The Snake), some modern guys (Maybe the cheaper members of The Bullet Club? Jinder Mahal, Lance Hoyt, Davey Boy Jr) and maybe if you want to splash the cash a guy like Abyss, Drew Galloway, Evan Bourne, James Storm etc as your big "TV guy". One NWA talent from each promotion will be on the show as well along with each World Champion.
So I imagine you'd have a lot of multi man matches on this show to fit everyone in but I think with 4-5 name guys and an undercard featuring the very best of the NWA wouldn't be that hard to do (It's pretty much been done already). The NWA should be about working together but not a lot of that happens.

I refereed several matches on this card and all the annual shows going back to the 50th as Promoted in Cherry Hill, NJ by the late Dennis Corralluzzo. Costs were shared. Each promoter was responsible for their own talents's fees, etc. Community expenses - ring, venue, etc. - were deducted from ticket sales and vendor fees and shared.
The shows were tied to the annual business meetings. Three of the annual shows I recall ran for two consecutive days.
It gave many of us a great sense of accomplishment to see talent that we nurtured in our local promotion "make it." With a quasi-parental sense of pride, it just made you feel ten feet tall to see a "kid" who started in your ring march out onto Fed or TNA television.
AJ Styles is often cited. No one did more to grow this talented young man (excluding himself) than Bill Behrens. Bill always believed in him and got most of us to jump on the bandwagon.
Abyss is another good example. I reffed one of his first matches, albeit under a different gimmick, and was elated when he factored in as a major talent in TNA.
Every promoter, in those days, built talent. It was simply the ethic (ethics in pro wrestling???) - - it was "the right thing."
From Fed to TNA - - we often had scouts at our annual shows who observed and made hiring recommendations to their respective audiences.
Dave Marquez understood the potential for such events. It is regrettable that David was never allowed to reach his maximum potential in that area. But, true-to-form, the "organization" was its' own worst enemy. There was BS, penny-ante lobbying and stupidity. No one's hands were clean in this respect - to include my own.
That was years ago. Times have changed. The WWE Network, in my seasoned experience, dealt a severe blow to the industry. Costs of producing any inie mega event are prohibitive. Money marks come and go. Most get their butts burned once and then head for the hills (wisely so).
Be that as it may, the memories of those shows endure.
And behind virtually every single one of them was the true ramrod - - Howard T. Brody.
That's a story unto itself.

Flair wasn't in attendance at this event, but was later given a special ceremony at a show.

What about that 60th show That's the one Magnus always called a failure. If you call booking a major arena and profiting a couple ten thousand dollars a failure, then he's correct.

Flair wasn't there, WWE pulled him. Also the final paid was 3,200 but it was a bought show, so I was a very happy man that night in Atlanta
