With there not being a lot of NWA talk right now, thought I'd start a friendly conversation thread, all feel free to join in. Thought I would debate the reigns of Adam Pearce and Aldis. I consider Pearce one of the great NWA champs in the post JCP era. 5 time champion in a tough time for the NWA, he was often the credible champ that kept the NWA relevant due to his hard work and visibility. Carried the Ten Pounds with pride and respect as a working champ should. Worked the "traveling champion" schedule defending internationally as well. I believe he even took the title to Germany (fact check me on that). With NWA ups and downs in his time, his reigns often suffered from lack of legitimate challengers. There were some memorable high marks. My favorite being the "7 Levels of Hate" series with Cabana. Too bad it came too late and served as the literal last breath of the Trobich regime. On to Aldis. It takes time to see how history will view us, but Aldis is off to a great start. 2 time champ that also shows great respect for the title he represents. The hardest working champ since Pearce. He has consistently has benefited from higher level competition therefore having better matches in high profile moments. He, like Pearce, is keeping the NWA legitimized with his work ethic and performance and constant travel. He took the belt to China (no fact check needed). So I guess the debate for sake of discussion, which is the better champion?

This is like comparing Dory Funk Jr to Dusty Rhodes. Funk was a longer reigning champion but Dusty had more of the spotlight and the drama. Who is greater?
Pearce was a good wrestler and possibly the best choice of champion when he had the belt, like Dan Severn he guided the NWA through some very lean times.
I prefer Aldis's reign myself. He is a man who has beaten Sting, Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy and Bobby Roode (you may need to fact check some of those but I think that's right). I don't think Pearce has names like that on his record. Aldis has the gravitas.
Plus Aldis has headlined one of the biggest shows of the modern era versus Cody Rhodes.
For me Aldis is a very under-rated performer. He is good technically, he's a good brawler (great working punches) and he looks like a million dollars.
Aldis for me.

I still pick Adam Pearce. He LITERALLY carry the NWA name ALMOST by himself. Imagine Pearce still NWA Champion in Corgan era where the NWA have strong youtube presence by Corgan and Lagana. Imagine the Ten Pounds of Gold video starring Adam Pearce.

Imagine the Ten Pounds of Gold video starring Adam Pearce. Man Dody , how I would love to see a "Ten Pounds of Gold" focusing on and including a current interview with Pearce. Unfortunately it probably would require him losing a great gig. But then again, Corgan was invited and attended the WWE HOF this year. So never say never. Baby steps in building a relationship with VKM and company I guess. As far as best champ, Pearce had a different job than Aldis in a way. He had to fight for the light. Aldis had to deliver out of the box after the Storm reign transition. He over delivered at "All In", in my opinion. I don't believe he, nor the NWA get enough credit for their efforts on that front. Coin toss on best champ for me right now. The upcoming turn of events with Drake and Cowboy before years end will help make my mind up.

Both Pearce and Aldis were/are excellent for what their job was/is. The true joy for me was watching Pearce become a better wrestler and champion as time went on.

For me Aldis is a very under-rated performer. He is good technically, he's a good brawler (great working punches) and he looks like a million dollars. Aldis for me. It is really difficult to go through this because of the opportunities afforded Aldis that Pearce did have. Pearce was at the WCW Powerplant. Had Pearce stayed on that path, there is not telling what kind of career he could have had in WCW. There was speculation years ago that he was being groomed to be the leader of the New Blood in that era. Who knows what that would have translated too. Aldis came into Impact and benefited by being a product of their weekly television. Pearce had five reigns and close to 5 years as one of the top draws of the NWA. He had to deal with multiple promoters wanting to crown "their" top guy. Something Aldis doesn't have to worry about. Pearce in his 5 reigns has victories over... Rhyno, Jason Kincaid, Colt Cabana, B-Boy, Kyle Matthews, Zack Sabre Jr., Sean Waltman, Danny Duggan, Phil Shatter, Daniel Bryan, Charlie Haas, Willie Mack, Blue Demon Jr., Brent Albright, Shane Haste, Scorpio Sky, TJ Perkins, Damien Wayne, Sterling James Keenan (WWE's Corey Graves)... just to name a few. Pearce without the money/influence that David Lagana and Billy Corgan took the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship to Australia, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Germany, and of course all over the United States. Pearce was a former UPW World Champion. UPW was a very minor developmental fed for the WWE (the same place Samoa Joe, John Cena, Frankie Kazarian and a few others got their starts). Pearce is also a former PWG Champion. Pearce was the champion the NWA needed at the time.

Your right about Pearce and may be seeing the same now with Aldis. Either I never realized how good he was or he has gotten better in the spotlight.
