Nick Aldis is now in the top 10 longest reigning (combined reigns) NWA champions behind Thesz, Flair, Race, Dory, Severn, Kiniski, Pearce, Jarrett and Pat O'Connor.
He has now held the belt longer than Jack Brisco, Buddy Rogers, Terry Funk, Sting, AJ Styles and Dusty Rhodes.

The statistical analogy is correct.
Nonetheless, to be fair, one needs to go beyond the calendar numbers and look at the number of title defenses. After all, it cannot be denied that the current NWA offers up very, very few championship matches as compared to those wherein Rogers, Rhodes, et al. competed.
Will that change? Only time will tell.

That's true, although in Aldis's favour he has defended the belt around the world, whereas most NWA champions of the 1940s, 50s and 60s hardly left the United States. Buddy Rogers for example mostly just defended the belt in the North East and Texas and even going to Japan wasn't common until the 1970s.

How many defenses did Severn make in his nearly 5 years? I know he had a few high profile defenses but the overall stats are hard to verify. Full disclosure that I am not knocking Severn and I know his sporadic defenses were largely due to the state of the NWA at the time and he was a very deserving champ and maybe the only thing keeping the NWA relevant in the public eye at the time. Congrats to Aldis, doing a fantastic job.

Full disclosure that I am not knocking Severn and I know his sporadic defenses were largely due to the state of the NWA at the time and he was a very deserving champ and maybe the only thing keeping the NWA relevant in the public eye at the time. Congrats to Aldis, doing a fantastic job. I watched Severn defend often in NJ.. I say more then you expect Jaden is right and I salute his accurate recall. The late Dennis Corralluzzo booked Danny many times. But there is another most-relevant factor. At that point-in-time, the NWA was made up of member promotions. These promotions paid 100% of the cost of brining in Champions. Thus, if the current title holder lived within driving distance, the more you would see them on local cards. For example, Steve Corino lived about one hour from the NJ venues Dennis ran. Hence, he was often on the cards. Dan had a high talent fee given his name recognition. He had to be flown in from the Detroit area and there was hotel and other ancillary costs. Those had to be balanced with how many tickets would be sold - - his turnstile value. What-with Aldis being paid by "the office," there is minimal money burden on a promoter.
