Not going to pretend I'm some wrestling mastermind because I'm not but what good does it do having Mustang Mike win the belt only to lose it a week later?
You look back to the 1980's when the likes of Kerry Von Erich or Tommy Rich won the belt and those were short reigns but during that time period the World Champion legitimately was the best (Or second best depending on how you feel about WWE) wrestler in the world and those guys were locals so beating Harley Race or Ric Flair got those guys over as guys who could compete with the best in the world. Also, Flair and Race would only come through the territories every now and then so having the hometown boy as the World Champion or what have you was a big deal.
Greg Anthony is a regional indy guy, Mustang Mike wins the belt and loses it a week later all that says is Mustang Mike fluked a win and that Greg Anthony isn't that great either for losing to him. This wouldn't hurt Mike as much if Anthony was some national star who defends the belt all over the country but he's not. They're both just regional indy guys.
So all in all what the booker (bookers?) have done with this match is shown that Greg Anthony isn't good enough to beat guys on his level and sometimes can lose to regional nobodies whilst Mustang Mike is a boob who somehow fluked a win and got put in his place 7 days later. You might say the 1000 people at the title change might have been hyped for a title change but will they pay to see the hometown hero who got a fluke win and lost a week later or will they view him as a loser? Probably a loser. Wouldn't there have been more value in Mustang Mike defending the belt in his hometown giving the same fans an opportunity to see the hometown boy who got the big win defend the title in his hometown and have a big homecoming celebration for him? I mean, if that crowd of one thousand is truthful the dude is clearly a pretty decent draw so why not let that town celebrate their big moment instead of taking it from them "just because"
Stuff like this is why the NWA isn't relevant in 2016 and it bothers me so much. The John Saxon situation with the Jr Title is the same deal. Meanwhile, Chase Owens (Who should be NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion) has just finished a tour of Japan whilst Jason Kincaid (A great choice for National Champion) has performed in Canada, ROH and is a big deal for NWA Smoky Mountain. Dude is currently working a tour of Mexico also.
But we insist on these same low rent one market independent guys...

You don't really pay attention do you? Mike winning the title wasn't a planned event. It was done that night to send the crowd home happy and because he was available to drop the title back the next week since Anthony already had other title defenses scheduled in other promotions.

I think title changes are good for business... to an extent. Often times it can pop attendance. Now, I'm not the demographic for these shows. But I'd venture to guess that when Mustang Mike won, it probably got over with the crowd. He's local to the audience. Their guy won a belt. Losing it really doesn't diminish Anthony, by regaining it. IF anything the messages is... I can lose this title any night, but I can win it back the next. That's what I want as a wrestling fan is to know that some guy isn't going to hold on to the title for 488 days... I like to see title matches where I don't know he finish ahead of time.
I think a little instability breaks up the monotony.
