Legit, all kidding aside, who are these people who keep becoming NWA World Champions?
Clearly Tharpe reads the boards and has taken the "Need new champions" thread into account but holy crap this isn't the right way to go about it. Nobody outside of little regional areas care about the likes of Greg Anthony, John Saxon, Mustang Mike, Steve Anthony or anyone else holding a World Title right now except for MAYBE Rob Conway
Can't wait until Ricky Ruffin becomes NWA World Heavyweight Champion

At 44 years old with the height of his career being some enhancement matches in 2003 and 2004 for TNA I'd say it's highly unlikely that he's going to ever pop up in the big companies.
Also, according to his cagematchdb profile he wrestles in Lousiana and Mississippi with the occasional appearance for other companies. From that info I'd say that's hardly working "everywhere" although as usual, I'm happy to be proven wrong.

They obviously have their reasons behind their current and prospective champions & congrats to John, exchanges with him he seems like a great guy. I think he was set to win it before but got injured so good for him.
When I'm looking at a champion I consider what the title is and how over the prospective champion is.
The work in the ring is paramount but I look at their individual profile, their status on the high profile Indy circuit, the amount of shows they work a year (with us or others), their social media stats and will their association with us/our championship get more exposure and create news stories.
Fight Nation has had 2 British Champions, the first was Marty Scurll who is internationally known, a regular stateside and across Europe who is considered one of the brightest stars on the world independent circuit & our current champion Mark Haskins, not only has he been on fire in the UK, this is a guy who has worked Dragon Gate, signed a TNA contract (probably a bit too early for him at the time), is over like rover in the UK, been booked for the PWG BOLA this year & recently won the SMASH championship.
Both our champions have been online very supportive of our product & their followers count is in the thousands.
For a British Championship they tick all the boxes, and as the title continues its length of exsistence every champion will mean something to the wider wrestling audience.

Can't wait until Ricky Ruffin becomes NWA World Heavyweight Champion The guy who says "nobody knows who any of these people are" just name dropped Ricky Ruffin. Sarcastically, perhaps, but still... Save

I really think Tharpe is letting James run the show and Tharpe only cares about nwa classics at this point. Just a random guess.
I am a fan of John. I wish they would post some of these matches.

John Saxon has wrestled all over the US, primarily in the south and northeast winning titles in many promotions. In these later years he has stayed around his home area, but "occasional appearance for other companies" is certainly not true of his career in general. Saxon has a long history in the NWA, including being half the of the North American Tag Teams champions back when it was a BOD title.

I'm not saying he's not a big deal in the small time Indies but the NWA itself has a great number of junior Heavyweight talent and there are tons of talented freelancers so out of every Jr Heavyweight why go with him?

John is a very talented guy who has the ability to travel to various affiliate promotions and lead less experienced talents to good or great matches. The goal is to elevate some other talents along the way so they become more viable to their "home" promotions. As far as being a guy with a regional appeal,I respectfully disagree.I know from our time at TCW,he has a large following. He is very successful in his other business and has been selective in his bookings the past few years. But the plans are for him to travel a good bit with the title.

He's a World Champion with a regional fan base More like national, and even if you were right the "region" (US south) is were the NWA has its highest concentration of promotions.
