I want to add this, it's one thing to have an opinion or preference but you don't need to continually criticize wrestlers you don't agree should of won a given title.

He's a World Champion with a regional fan base Hate to break it to you, the NWA is a regional base brand. With out the regions, they aren't anything. Not sure what the problem is. Just because you don't know who he person is doesn't mean they don't deserve the Championship run!

He's a World Champion with a regional fan base More like national, and even if you were right the "region" (US south) is were the NWA has its highest concentration of promotions. No, someone with a national fan base is the likes of a Chris Hero, Colt Cabana, Zack Sabre Jr. etc. If this Saxon guy had a national fan base he'd be working around the United States and working big shows. He is not. All because most of the promotions are in the South doesn't mean he's a good choice. A good choice is someone who benefits EVERYONE. I want to add this, it's one thing to have an opinion or preference but you don't need to continually criticize wrestlers you don't agree should of won a given title. Don't we have that right? As the head honcho here wouldn't you prefer a "I don't like this decision" and someone responding with "I do, here's why" compared to 2 responses of "Cool" and "Congrats"? He's a World Champion with a regional fan base Hate to break it to you, the NWA is a regional base brand. With out the regions, they aren't anything. Not sure what the problem is. Just because you don't know who he person is doesn't mean they don't deserve the Championship run! Err...the problem is they're marketing themselves as an international brand but are using regional tactics. Isn't the idea behind the NWA having a guy in charge to make decisions that are best for the entire alliance? Who outside of Louisiana and Missippi want to see this guy? Compare that to the amount of states that the NWA is in. Is Saxon being champion going to benefit Australia? No. New Jersey? No. New York? No. California? No. Colorado? No. So why is he champion? Because he "deserves it"? How does he deserve it? I'm seeing a lot of defending going on here but nobody can explain why he's a better option than say Chase Owens, Jason Kincaid or even outside guys such as ROH talent, EVOLVE talent or freelance talent.

It's up to the promoter to make the talent into a big deal. They don't have to have an audience in another country but they can always develop one.

As a promoter why would I pay X amount of dollars to fly in, lodge and give a match fee to someone I simply want to build up in hopes they'll make me money?
I could do the same with a local who has potential and save the money. Shouldn't the World Champions have at least a little bit of popularity around the world?

You're bringing in the BOD Championship Title, that's special enough, again you'll have to build up the Champion as well as your opponent and make this a big deal to your audience. Not sure why after all these years you still don't understand how the game works!

At this time the NWA BoD titles are worth as much as my paper mache title belts I made for my front yard wrestling federation I had with the neighborhood kids when I was 13.

As a businessman though why take the time and money to build up a BOD belt which only a few paying customers see as "special" when I could put that money towards making my regular talent become special. It's different if the champion is a draw but if Tharpe's gameplan is to put the belt on a regional indy guy and hope these promoters hire him simply because of the belt I think it's a recipe for disaster. I wouldn't do it and I'm actually a fan of the lineage of the titles and respect them.

Then you shouldn't waste your time and or money being involved with in the National Wrestling Alliance, just be your own promotion! Correct me if i'm wrong but being apart of the NWA you are required to book BOD champions through out the year (besides he most over quoted statement over the last year, just take their money line). If you're not going to book a BOD Champion, what's the point of being apart of the NWA?

I'm just checking in briefly from my retirement to reiterate that this entire thing... the National Wrestling Alliance is supposed to be a a symbiotic relationship between the alliance and the promoters... the titles and the champions. I'm sure you all get tired of hearing about how great David Marquez was, but when he was promoting under the NWA banner, his promotion was bringing prestige to the NWA. In the brief time before their was the actual Championship Wrestling from Hollywood show, Marquez was using the likes of Brian Danielson, Samoa Joe, Adam Pearce, Colt Cabana, CM Punk, Rocky Romero, TJ Perkins, Ricky Reyes, and talents from Mexico, Australia, and Japan. The NWA Pro Wrestling TV show that ran for a few seasons used talents again like TJ Perkins/PUMA, Rocky Romero, Ultimo Dragon, Blue Demon Jr., Pearce, Joey Ryan, Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson, would use talents from around the NWA like Damian Wayne, Dru Onyx, Chance Prophet, and guys from WCW and the World of Lucha. They even incorporated the short lived Wrestling Society X into their live tours... Marquez's programming and arena shows might not be everyone's cup of tea, but they sure and hell brought notice to the NWA.
Also, with regards to the NWA Champions... The title is supposed to give the wrestler a rub, some notoriety. But the champion has to "run with the ball" to make it worth while. The perfect example of this is Adam Pearce. He wasn't an unknown when he won the title, but he wasn't mentioned in the same vein as a Christopher Daniels or a Samoa Joe. But once he captured the NWA World Title, he was working every where. Pearce carried that title in what some considered a down period for the NWA, but here he was defending it on television in Hollywood West Virgina, PPV in Canada, Australia, Germany, Mexico, and the UK. All without the packing of New Japan or a major Promotion. Pearce was booked, because Pearce could work. He could get the deals. I.E. Pearce's reign as Champion vs. some of the other modern day champions... similar to Blue Demon and Colt Cabana. They didn't need the NWA World Title to get booked. They brought prestige to a title that needed it. In return the title elevated for when lesser known wrestlers won the title.
The relationship is supposed to be symbiotic. Both parties should benefit from the relationship. If both parties aren't, then you're correct what's the point. Tony Given's really seems like he understands this more than most. His promotion is thriving under the NWA banner. And he hasn't always brought in the BIG NAMES to his shows. He's created stars; Chase Owens, Jason Kincaid...

The value isn't just in the belts. The NWA name has some drawing ability in some areas and the territory system could lead to you getting talent for a cheaper rate or what have you.

Just be a local Indy. In the long run you're better off being your own promotion, especially if you're just starting out. You are the only one in control of your reach. The NWA brand name will help, but not as much as it used to be. You make your own rules and regulations compared to having someone higher up tell you to book their champions and make you spend money that you could have spent on advertising, talent, etc. Out of all the companies here in the states that use the NWA brand, which one is the most successful?
