Put the belt on Gunner. He'd be a good champion.

I remember wanting them to put the title on "Phil Shatter" so badly. Rumors are there was a plan to do so at one time, it just never worked out.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Just call him Phil "Gunner" Shatter. Best of both worlds.

I don't care what name they use but I would love for him to win the title. Probably not realistic. I once drove 2 1/2 hours just to see him defend the National Heavyweight title. He was certainly a draw to me personally.

And that's saying something because DKM is a bit of a Jax guy. Personally, I think Gunner/Shatter... the Universal Soldier... great wrestler. Not sure he could enhance the brand anymore than Dane. But, what really needs to happen... is a strong feud. Very few wrestlers at this level can match power for power with Dane. I'd like to see this evolve into a storyline. Not just a one off match. Pearce had some great feuds in the course of reign as champion. I really don't feel the NWA has done much to create a strong feud for Dane. Haas was good. But... you now Pearce had feuds with;
Brent Albright, Colt Cabana, Blue Demon Jr., Damien Wayne, The Stro, and in Hollywood feuded briefly with both Joey Ryan and Willie Mack. And had the Sheik and Pearce been able to do business... I think that would have been huge for the brand. Imagine Pearce vs. Sheik in ZERO1? Or the Sheik vs. Pearce in the former NWA Warzone. Or hell... a blood feud settled in Hollywood like Fred Blassie and Jon Tolos. Sorry, I'll get off my soap box.

I think this hits the nail on the head. The one thing lacking in the NWA is any top story line and feud that people understand and get behind.
Dane "feuded" Tim Storm across NWA promotions, and it was talked about on the old website, but it wasn't sold and the only story line was Storm was the #1 contender.
Dane had a good story line with Haas that crossed a couple of different promotions, built to a big match on a big card, and then that was it.
I don't think it matters who holds the belt, until the promoters are willing to use the champion in a 4-6 month story line and feud, the title will seem lackluster.
