I don't want to cover the entire show since you can catch the highlights on Impacts YT channel but something I wanted to comment on was Pentagon Jr becoming Impact World Champion.
After the second and hopefully last debacle with El Patron, Impact had to change their recent Wrestlecon main event with Pentagon Jr winning the match pinning Fexix who just happens to be related to him.
For those that follow anything outside WWE or just whatever promotion you are tuned into, if you watched anything Lucha Underground is about, you'd know there a nice alternative to some of the other promotions that are on weekly but they do their shows in seasons which gives opportunities for the talent to hone their craftelsewhere but it's also a place for other kinds of talent to show what they are capable of and even stand out while even occasionally bringing in other talent from bigger promotions.
I've watched LU since their first season which you can catch the first 2 on Netflix if you have it but even if not, they still have a number of full matches on YT. If anyone follows Impact nowadays, you'd know that like ROH, the UWN and even WWE are working with a few other promotions both big and small which you might have seen some pop up on certain shows, depending just what and how much wrestling you watch.
While ROH is working with New Japan and CMLL, the UWN is working with alot of other promotions, most recently we've seen the reigning NWA champion defended the title on Mr Marquez's show and has what I believe is a current working relationship with the NWA but I do not want to speak for him, it's just what I see. Anyways WWE has brought in a number of talent from Evolve to help fill up their 205 roster and even working with some smaller promotions in the UK.
While this is going on, Impact was developing relationships with LU who if you watched the free Wrestlecon show on Twitch would know this already but they have been actively bringing in more talent and it helps since LU works in seasons as oppose to weekly shows I've mentioned. They have also bee working with what was once considered the top promotion in Japan with NOAH who themselves have a history with ROH. While it's rumored that Impact is trying to rebuild a relationship with New Japan, it remains to be seen since they have a solid one with ROH currently but even Impact seems to want to mend fences so to speak with them as well which was made apparent when Aries showed up as Impact World Champion not long ago which you saw if you're reading this but not much has been said on any follow ups besides Aries challenge to his former stablemate Kenny K I N G. It's like a battleground and all battle lines are drawn with these companies which are preparing for a big war.
One of the bigger moments for Impact was when Eddie Edwards won the NOAH Championship and became the first Gaijin to doso for them but since then there's been a working relationship with the above mentioned LU and to some degree AAA from Mexico and even Crash or The Crash who Konnan was once a part of and if I'm not mistaken Pentagon Jr is currently working for but also not to long ago OVE was seen over their during their feud/program with LAX.
Back to Pentagon Jr though, while WWE has been seen signing former Impact and ROH talent along with resigning some former talent who made a name for themselves in Impact, beyond the that realm, there are a number of talents are getting more and more noticed without the machine behind them, I don't need to go into how popular
the Bullet Club is either but more importantly are those that are making the IWC talk in general about who are some of the best talents from other promotions whether they are considered smaller or Indy is a term that's subjective but even some have that freedom to do both if the company they are working for lets them. Pentagon Jr has come a way in a short time but it helps that your brother is one of the best high flyers in the world in Fenix but you wouldn't know this do to their styles being completely different.
While Pentagon was doing very well in LU and this is just my opinion but it wasn't until he started to get booked elsewhere that made a difference, one of Indy companies in what I'd like to call the other Cali promotion PWC or Pacific Coast Wrestling has helped out regardless they only run shows every so many months but it helps if you have Amazon Prime so you can watch them without buying their shows. Like some of the other monthly or every so many monthly promotions, they bring in some of the best talents that aren't signed to bigger or even smaller promotions. What helps me to keep coming back to PCW besides the talent they bring in is that one of their mainstays who is an all time fav or mine is there in RVD but the atmosphere gives that older ECW vibe but I guess that could be said for other places.
Pentagon became the first ever PCW champion and it's current that has been carving his path into an industry where it's hard to stand out but with certain companies along with the other more popular Cali promotion PWG is also a place he's familiar with but since Impact has been recently affiliated with LU, I believed it helped bring in Pentagon Jr but is he really signed to the company or just freelancing? This is what gets me excited about being a fan cause it gives that sense of not really knowing what's going on but makes me intrigued to find out and since the Net makes it not so hard to find out what's real and what's not, this is something I personally enjoy cause I don't care to waste my time on predictable nonsense or just atrocious booking decisions. I still have that bad taste from the recent Wrestlemania main event or lack thereof. Oh well whatever. Personally I just want to be entertained.
Last night Impact did something it hasn't in sometime and thats put on a really good ppv while their were some questionable decisions, the overall payoff at the end was worth it and I say that because Pentagon Jr who has been one of the hottest acts outside whatever is going on with New Japan, more specifically Bullet Club and what the current Aldis crusade is doing with the NWA title who has also been showing up in places one wouldn't expect
But I don't want to try and discredit or discount whatever else is going on throughout the industry or atleast what I watch, these are just a few that come to mind but I gotta say I love the idea or bringing in an outside talent like Pentagon Jr and putting the newly designed Impact World Championship is doing something that's getting others that have looked down in Impact to take a bit of notice, now I'm not saying this is going to be the what's going to erase all the BS history but it's a way to show that they might be finally going in the direction they need to be but it's still early on and many many fans know Impact has had a tumultuous history but maybe just maybe last nights show is more than just what's in the name but I get it's not for everyone but what company really is?
Whatever happens, congrats to Pentagon Jr aka PENTA EL 0M. Below is a short video someone made with pics of him wearing the new title. Just skip to 0:18.
Perhaps Impact can be summed up in that one movie quote.
