This would have been a better idea when the NJPW deal was still fresh and NJPW might have been willing to do more for the NWA to make them happy but I think the NWA should be looking into going to Asia or the Oceania regions due to the close proximity they have to Australia (NWA Australia who are definitely looking to expand) and New Japan Pro Wrestling (Who are also looking to expand outside of Japan)
It seems Bruce Tharpe isn't interested though. On an Australian wrestling facebook group I'm a fan of which features promoters and fans talking openly about the business (Kind of like here) it was mentioned about 6-12 months ago that two promoters in Australia and New Zealand wanted to work with Bruce Tharpe and the NWA (Mainly due to the NJPW connection) to get a show up and running in Malaysia for a potential TV project. They wanted this because the fly ins for talent would have been considerably cheaper from Japan to Malaysia compared to United States to Malaysia.
Anyway, they sent Bruce Tharpe multiple E-Mails attempting to get in contact with him and one of the promoters in question was bashing Bruce Tharpe for not even discussing the possibility of doing business together. I believe these guys just wanted access to NJPW talent and were going to slap the NWA logo on the show to make the NWA happy. Pres never responded despite the great publicity that he would have got simply for playing the middle man.
Anyway, for me the NJPW deal is going to waste and Tharpe should be contacting businesses in Asia attempting to get a tour started. He has the NWA Australia promotion which is based in Perth and is very strong right now (They do great numbers for an Aussie independent) whilst the number 2 company does work with him as well despite not being an official member. All he would have to do is find the sponsors and arrange it all.
Japan is a hot bed of talent as we all know but Australia has a lot of great talent that Tharpe could use as well. Orlando Jordan lives in Melbourne and despite being semi-retired he will wrestle if the price is right. You've got Jag who wrestled in Zero-1 for awhile, NWA Australia promoter The Shark has wrestled in the States and was trained by Lance Storm whilst you could also get Robbie Eagles (Zero-1), Ryan Eagles (CHIKARA, CZW, ROH), Mikey Lord (Multiple tours of Japan I believe) and a lot of others.
In terms of females Australia has tons with SHIMMER Champion Madison Eagles residing in Sydney and Shazza McKenzie of SHIMMER also residing in Sydney. I don't know about Shazza but Madison has a huge following in places like Japan and her working an NWA Tour perhaps with SHIMMER Title matches could really get the NWA a lot of great publicity in America and Japan.
So to stop this long winded rant I pretty much think Bruce needs to arrange tours of places that don't often get wrestling. Philippines drew 3000 people for an ex WWE guys tour a few years back whilst the new Singapore Pro Wrestling company is allegedly doing quite well also. An NWA tour featuring a couple of the NWA guys (Perhaps the World Heavyweight Champion and Rob Conway?) mixed in with some NJPW guys (Don't even need to be the biggest stars) mixed in with some NWA Australia (Just so that they benefit) and the top talent in Australia could really be a great success.
I'm not suggesting this could be easy or that Bruce Tharpe should just accomplish this tomorrow but maybe just start working towards it soon before the NJPW deal ends. Nobody including the WWE really has a strong hold on Oceania or South East Asia so there is definitely an opportunity there especially in Oceania which never gets anything ever in terms of entertainment.
Your opinions?
