With Bryan Danielson aka Daniel Bryan eye injury had not happen, he would have won the Reclaiming The Glory Tournament and the NWA World's Heavyweight Championship
In honor of his retirement tonight, what kind of World's Heavyweight Champion would he had made?
It would have been awesome to have him as the NWA World's Heavyweight Champion

 That's a true statement and here is the only image of him with the Championship. We shot interviews prior to the injury for cards he was scheduled to defend the title on. |

The crazy thought is that has Danielson won the NWA World title there may have never been a NWA World Champion Adam Pearce? Would Danielson have gone the same route as Pearce or would he have gone a more successful route of Blue Demon i.e. one long reign with lots of high profile matches.

Danielson is the type of champion the NWA should have today. A big name unsigned wrestler who has a big fan base and can bring interest.
Tharpe wants to build his own "NWA guys" but the fans don't care because they're mostly unknown unless you're an NWA fan.
Guys like Cabana, Hero, AJ (pre WWE) and even bigger name's such as Hoyt, Davey Jr and Charlie Haas should be the World Champion in 2016

Hoyt is the perfect choice for THEM, but is it the right thing for NJPW? How would Lance carrying the title affect what Japan has planned for him? If they would ignore the fact that he's champ, how would THEY feel about Hoyt having to lay down in Japan when NJPW needs him to?
Lance is one of, if not THE, most professional wrestler I have ever worked with. A lot of people talk, but Lance just does. He walks the walk. There are a lot of people who pretend to be like Lance, but very have the character to live up to his standard. He is the real deal in and out of the ring.

Haas is semi retired and has stated he has no interest in traveling again.
Smith is in the same boat as Hoyt.
Hero, don't know enough about. But simply wanting someone to be champion doesn't mean its realistic for various reasons.

You bring up a great point TB but honestly unless you're Japanese or a smart mark you're not going to know about Hoyt laying down in Japan.
The audience in Perth watching AAW don't care that Hoyt took a fall in Japan and I'd like to think that the NWA fans in Texas don't care either.
Regardless, I don't understand why a Chris Hero wouldn't be realistic. I don't think he's the best fit as NWA Champion (I'd rather an old school guy) but the dude is booked by tons of small indies and he isn't unrealistic for them so why would he be unrealistic for NWA companies that are similarly sized?

I actually agree that Chris Hero as a talent is superb. However, much like Colt, Hero makes his own bookings and literally travels the world. Now on the surface that sounds great for the NWA. But in reality, it would become more increasingly difficult for NWA Licensees to actually book Hero. And why should he lower his rate for NWA licensees when he makes so much more being independent. Plus it doesn't really fit the current storyline the NWA is using. I mean... if an agreement could be made... but I'm not holding my breath. But I do like the idea and I think a lot of indie fans could get behind Hero as NWA World Champion. |

NWA doesn't have money to have a popular champion who is exclusive to their brand. Unfortunately they'll just have to bite the bullet.

Just thinking out loud, but at this moment (and it could change in 10 minutes), I don't know that I would have affiliates....maybe just 1 strong affiliate like Smoky Mtn that would be considered the home promotion. I would focus on the world titles and book guys like Colt, Hero, Hoyt, Smith, etc. as my champions....PROVIDED they would properly defend and protect the titles. You could work out a minor "defense fee" for each match...but with as much as some of these guys work, a small fee would probably add up to more than yearly dues from a handful of ever changing affiliates. Outside of maybe 1 home promotion, the alliance should focus on being a sanctioning body. If you do 1 home promotion, you focus on getting that promotion on TV....David's situation at CWFH would be the model to shoot for. I would build an online store and make merchandise another revenue stream. Part of booking a champion for all independents would include putting the alliance url on their poster, etc....hoping to drive fans to merchandise purchases. You could also have a Colt alliance world champion shirt, a Hero alliance world champion shirt, etc....as part of the agreement with the wrestler carrying the title. Like I said, just an out loud thought, without thinking about all of the ramifications....but at 1am in the morning its a concept that hit me. Maybe it's crazy, but it can't be any less effective than what they are doing now. The KEY would be having the kind of guys who are in demand carrying the titles. It would bring more notoriety to the titles....they would travel all over...and less headaches trying to satisfy every promotion and wrestler at multiple affiliates who will never work in harmony toward the ultimate game plan anyway.

I recently had a conversation with someone that perhaps a better route would to become a booking office. You would have to sign some bigger names in the Indie scene to actual contracts to make it work. Say Chris Hero. You basically have to book 75% of his dates, with the talent having the freedom to book the other 25%. But again, you have to act like an agent. You have to have a marketing staff. You have to negotiate well. You have to work with other wrestling promotions. Joey Ryan, Young Bucks, Chris Hero, Colt Cabana, Candice LaRae, basically anyone who gets the bookings now, but you could sweeten their deals. You're not going to make money off of them. But with Merchandising, signing more clients, working with wrestling schools, you could really create something different for the Wrestling Scene. Obviously this is a deal where you can be cheap about this and you're going to start off losing money. |

Thought 1, I haven't kept up with Hero and don't know what's all on his plate these days. Thought 2, for some people, even if the NWA wanted them to be champion, it might not be realistic for various reasons. |
