This is from a article I found on Facebook
In an interview reflecting on Ric Flair’s defection to the WWE in 1990 while still carrying the NWA World title, Ole Anderson was quick to antagonize his interviewer with a gruff question: “Champion of what?” In Anderson’s view, by the time of Flair’s defection to work for Vince McMahon, professional wrestling’s territory system had died. The status of the NWA was dead. In the years since, many champions have committed their body of work to re-establishing value to the title as travelling champions such as Lou Thesz, Jack Brisco and Harley Race had been – bringing the world title to every city and town where a local contender could be elevated. Adam Pearce could be arguably identified as the last great NWA World champion, regularly appearing across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Australia as champion. However, since the Bruce Tharpe regime took the reins of the organization, the world title has diminished to obscurity. The world title has since been contested and changed hands in front of unpaid crowds at Vegas trade shows. Chances are, you may not know who the current NWA World champion is … but you’re sure to find a photo of President Tharpe mugging with the title belt for photo opportunities.
What do you think about all this?

Whilst I truly like the human who Jax Dane is and think in better circumstances his reign could be a hell of a lot more memorable I'm of the opinion that Adam Pearce was certainly the last World champion who was so with significance.

So am I. Because if things would have went the way of Marquez and the TNA of getting what they both needed, A new deal should have been formed. I think Adam Pearce was the best World Champion since Flair.

I loved Pearce as champion, but the belt has roughly had the same status since 1994 with the exception of the TNA period, where at best it was moderate.

Had TNA been left alone, the belt could and would have evolved. Alas, such was not the case. I have detailed what went down several times in this forum.
And for the record, excepting Flair, Thesz and a few others, the best Champs I worked with were Adam and Steve Corino. The late Shinya Hashimoto was also at the top of my list.

First thing to me to have the NWA as a force again is to first have a true promoter/wrestler/manager/booker that really knows the business should be the owner/president. Then re organized the membership, what worked nearly 60 plus years ago ain't gonna work now. Get some new belts, the belts the NWA have now are garbage. Finally Superbrawl is back but no Starrcade? WTF?!?

The brand is best retired....using it only to sell branded merchandise to the dying off generation who still want to represent "the good ole days". Its function as a sanctioning body is obsolete. With all of the failure, devaluation of the heavy weight title and tomfoolery so far, how could it be anything else? At this point, if you insist on it being an active brand, one real promoter should be the brand's only active promotion. Period. No affiliates, licensees, etc. it's an antiquated model. If anyone had mercy they would let it rest in peace and stop disgracing its long gone rich and productive heritage.

I could call my return event Wrestlemania if I wanted....but what would it mean?

Exactly, although if you're going to do Starrcade or Starcade or anything like that at least try and make it Starrcade like. The Starrcade show the NWA did in 2013 or 2014 or whenever it was simply was a show in December featuring two out of shape indy dudes wrestling in a cage main event for a regional title. It was sad.
Now we're going the same way with Superbrawl. It'll be equally as sad.

If STARRCADE is a show that the NWA is afraid to use be that to the WWE then so should Superbrawl legacy or not.

If STARRCADE is a show that the NWA is afraid to use be that to the WWE then so should Superbrawl legacy or not. The Alliance does not book events. I'm sure there is a mark promoter somewhere who wants to put on "Starrcade" in front of 100 people. It's not like promoters have to have their events or event names approved by Dick.

Who is Dick? and why do you know about alliance business when you are no longer part of the alliance.
