We have another show just two days away right in the centre of the city. Needless to say the fact it's in the city has lead to more ticket sales with ringside selling over 50% in advance already. Last time we ran this venue we did the majority of our pre sale tickets the night before the event so we're hoping to completely sell out of ringside before the show. If that occurs we may try and release some more ringside seats to sell at the door to maximise profits.
The above video is being used to hype our main event. The story is that back in April we had our heavyweight title tournament where these two guys wrestled in the final only for our champion (The muscular guy) to emerge victorious against the challenger (Obviously the painted up guy). Our champion as the humble baby face offered his hand, painted up guy shook his hand and then kicked our champion low, spat on the belt and hit him in the face with it. The other wrestlers ran him off and helped the champion to the back.
At our next show we had the champion come out to the ring and demand a match with the challenger which was denied. We deemed that Kingston (The challenger) is too dangerous and unpredictable and we wanted nothing to do with it. On our social media we have Kingston continually trashing our champion for well over two months which lead to our event on July 28th in which the champion once again emerged saying he has had enough of the constant shit talking and that he wants Kingston in the ring. This time our "official" agreed to the match but said that due to the fears of what may occur we wouldn't be officially sanctioning it and that we'd provide a referee and those two could just fight. The people cheered, our champion hyped it up and it leads us to this match on Saturday night where they'll fight again in a rematch in the very same building where they fought the first time.
Kingston the challenger has performed for Pro Wrestling NOAH before, is a big deal in the neighbouring New Zealand and I believe he has also wrestled in South Africa so the way I've tried to arrange things is that when he's in town it's a big deal and you've got to come out because he isn't around every show. I'm not sure if this is working on a larger scale (And won't know until the night) but I do know a lot of the more hardcore fans have bought into it and are buying tickets to see these two duke it out.
Away from the main event we've got a pretty big card. The Lance Storm graduate from last time is coming back with his students after an impressive display at our last show. We've got our sanctioned main event which features one of Sydney's more popular wrestlers and a guy I deem as the future of Australian wrestling in a six man tag to hype their upcoming match in October against one another. We've got Sydney's most entertaining tag team taking on Sydney's most toughest tag teams and a man who once worked for our competitor for something like four years is making his debut with us.
And what a shit storm that has caused. We're loosely affiliated with a company up in Sydney because we book some of their guys, pay them and are nice to the guys who do come in. They operate as a training school and run shows once every two months that pull quite well due to the guy running it being a former national TV star turned wrestler turned trainer. They're all really great guys up there who "get" professional wrestling.
They have a guy who was involved with our competition for four years as a manager, production guy and wrestling trainee. He left them due to being mistreated and joined the school in Sydney and once he found out about us it of course was a natural fit. Helps that the dude is intelligent and has the same views on wrestling as I do pretty much.
We announced him Saturday night to be coming in and cutting a promo, the very next day the shit hit the fan as our competitor did not like this and announced they'd be holding a charity show up against our show at the exact same time just 15 minutes down the road. We then announced that the guy who used to work for them would be wrestling on our show which lead to them taking petty shots at us online claiming they'd have an "All-Star cast" (We're All-Star Wrestling) at their academy show. They got into the newspaper as did we and now we're both ready to see what Saturday night brings.
So we're involved in some dumb wrestling war with a company that shouldn't be threatened by us at all. We're in a 400 seat auditorium in the heart of the city with a much better card, a live band, alcohol, food and a match that actually has a reason to be occurring but they've still got the advantage that they've been around for ten years and people know them and are loyal to them. Running a little academy show with all your C-talent against my show with A-talent hurts them to be honest because if people pick their show over mine and check back later to see we had an amazing show and they paid for an average one they'd most likely come to us next time. This isn't to mention that they've already pissed off the more hardcore fans in the area who saw their tactic for what it was (Trying to hurt us) and have made it known either via messaging us or commenting publicly.
Their announcement hasn't hurt our ticket sales and the guy who left them and has now joined us has been giving me lots of good information on how they operate and how they do things. Companies in in different regions of the state are taking sides in the war with some on my side and some on his it's super lame but it's good to know I have support from some heavy hitters.
We're hoping that the mix of live music, good venue and a big card that has been built properly will lead to us finally cracking 100 people. Our Facebook has well over 100 people either "going" or "interested" and we've done some pre sales from people who aren't subscribed to our event page already. Throw in the newspaper and other plugs we've been getting and we're hoping for our first triple figure crowd. We're very much the little guy but people are starting to like that and our support is growing every day.
