Well I don't care for this way of establishing a champion, at least the vacancy will be filled.

Well I don't care for this way of establishing a champion, at least the vacancy will be filled. Seems like lazy booking, but i'm sure that it was an added bout to their card and they probably had no other choice to do a battle royal match to determine the new champion. A tournament of the top NWA stars would have been better ala the World Title in New Jersey a couple years ago.

That was an elimination match, not a tournament.

Well you also have to figure that after Dane unified the NA and Nat titles he went down with an injury and they ended up running quasi-tournaments for those vacancies. I think its only lazy depending on how you look at it. I've been impressed with just about EVERYTHING NWA MID SOUTH has done to this point, this time around anyhow. I know most indy battle royals are FAR FAR away from the WWE'S ROYAL RUMBLE or WCW's World War 3 for that matter. Every loose end gets booked for the Battle Royale! But it can also tell a story. I think it comes down to who's in the match. Maybe you tell an underdog story about a guy who was overlooked in the NA/NAT tournaments that took place over the summer and who just squeezed by and is an entrant in the B.R. Maybe you book a Mid South regular and current NA Champion Tim Storm with the idea that he won't be one upped by Jax Dane and before he goes on to challenge Dane he's also unifying the NA and Nat titles and the completing the hat trick by defeating Dane for the Domed GLOBE. All of a sudden its down to Storm and Golden Boy Greg Anthony and Rob IRON Man Conway and said "underdog". The heels double team Connie and toss him out and meantime the "underdog" sneaks up and tosses the Golden Boy up, out and over! Now Tim Storm is pissed and he takes out said aggression on our favorite, local hero. And after taking all the abuse necessary maybe Jax Dane strolls down the ramp and the Herb Welch Wrestleplex and smiles at Storm and creates just enough distraction that our "underdog" tosses him over the top rope and BAM, you're new NWA NATIONAL HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION....I'm not suggesting they do that BUT it could be a possible outcome that I personally would NOT consider lazy booking. My only problem with tournaments are the majority of the guys in them, at this level, unless it's Smoky are probably going to be unknowns. Sure its probably going on the guy with the biggest reputation but wouldn't that be obvious? I'd personally like to see a few surprise entrants in this thing. Maybe former NA Champions Byron Big DADDY YUM YUM Wilcott or the Texas Lion Ken Houston Carson. Or what better way to reintroduce our very own Mid Atlantic BADASS Damian Wayne? Or how about the NWA return on Kahagas? I'm sure Polejump would love to see Kahagas back with Championship gold around his waste! There's many ways this can play out. And while yes, as I said Battle Royales can be and often are clusterf*cks they're also underrated and can be an unlikely opportunity to bring someone back into the fold or to get someone to the next level on the card. Again Mid South has been really consistent since their return into the NWA fold and I doubt this will be any exception. Or hell it could be the drizzling shits! Haha

All of those opinions would be solid. Somehow I feel they will be superior to what ends up happening.
Hope I'm wrong.

John Saxon is one hell of a wrestler. He is part of whats right with pro wrestling. He has done an outstanding job of representing Lone Star Championship Wrestling as our heavyweight champion.

After hearing a rumor about the original plans, it is a bit of a let down. But that doesn't mean that Saxon isn't going to make for a great champion. Just a shame the idea I heard would have popped this message board and the fans of the National Wrestling Alliance.

I can't leak sources, but rumor was it would have been a person of interest in the NWA, from previous ownership.

Well I dont believe Colt will do business with the NWA office anymore and despite this being a Mid South show the National title is an office championship. That leaves only one man, truly from previous ownership that would "pop" the board...the Universal Soldier Phil Shatter or I hear he goes by Gunner sometimes too. But that's my guess. Phil Shatter!

Ok, ok, ok. I'm old and I'm NEVER on instagram and when I occasionally post a pic that's ALL I do! I don't follow.....him or anything involving rasslin! But a simple google search and I'm now aware of who #Hi is!!! Honestly??? Yeah. I'd have popped for it. But I still like my idea of Gunner DBA Phil Shatter returning over taking that chance on #Hi. But never say never right? It could still happen so no spoilers from me.
